The text of this work is identical to song no. 12; thus, only the first verse was included here, as the full text is published in song no. 12.

The melody is adapted from a Yiddish lullaby "shlof mayn kind mayn treyst" [Sleep My child, My Dear], attributed to the Yiddish writer Sholem Aleichem (1859-1916). In the Yiddish version, the mother tells her son about the departure of his father to America to begin a new life, and expresses her longing for him. In this lullaby, the child is urged to go to his homeland, Zion, and build his personal and national future there.

The melody is in a minor key.
