הרקוד | Ha-rikud | The Dance (1912)

Artist: Abraham Zvi Idelsohn (1882-1938)

Lyrics: Unknown

Tune: Hasidic Melody

Although Idelsohn wrote in Sefer Ha-Shirim that the source of this song is the anthology Ha-Zamir, the song is not included in the two volumes of Ha-Zamir. In the song text, dance instructions are included: each boy is to invite a girl; they will walk in a row and sing.

The text runs: "Let's stand and walk together; we will laugh at whoever does not wish to do so”. In the fourth verse, the teacher instructs: “Stop walking and form a circle; we will laugh at whoever does not wish to do so. Let's dance, sing and be happy”.

In the Table of Contents to Sefer Ha-Shirim, Idelsohn designated this is an unidentified Hasidic melody.
